Nancy Dowd Burton
1923 – 1985

Nancy Dowd Burton was led to activism by her faith. As a member of Christ Church Glendale, she was one of the first women to serve in the Vestry. She was also youth director and a delegate to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church.

As a professional and volunteer, her focus was on women and children. A graduate of Seven Hills School and Sweet Briar College, Nancy earned a master’s degree in School Psychology from Ohio State University and worked as a personal counselor. She served as a Trustee of Seven Hills and headed its Alumnae Association from 1976 to 1979. Seven Hills gave her the Goodall Distinguished Alumna Award for “service that betters the lives of others.” Sweet Briar gave her an award in 1984 for her 40 years of fundraising.

For Planned Parenthood, Nancy served as Treasurer of the Cincinnati chapter and Vice President at the state level. She led the Endowment Committee for the Center for Women’s Studies at UC and served as President of the Freedom of Choice Coalition and coordinator of the Encore Program for the YWCA.
