Melna Hitchcock Smith Burchenal

Melna is a native of Birmingham, AL, and attended the University of Florida. She married Charles H. Burchenal in 1962 and moved to Glendale. Four years later, she was a widow with two toddlers and a big dream.

She bought 25 acres on the south side of Sharon Road and set out to turn it into a beautiful neighborhood of well-designed single-family houses called “Little Creek.” In 1980, she achieved her goal with the completion of the 20-home community. While she was an experienced realtor, building this wonderful community was a personal first for Melna. It also made her the first woman developer in Glendale.
